Ms. Coffan
Ms. Coffan teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Special Education in a self-contained enviornment. We have just entered the second sememester of the school year. There have been countless successes this year and we will continue to look forward to many more as the school year unfolds. All core subjects are taught in Ms. Coffan's class. These subjects include Connected Math, Language Arts (Studio), World Geography, Life Science, and Anger Replacement Training. Several students in Ms. Coffan's class mainstream in general education classes. This classroom is based upon a highly structured level system. Students earn points based upon their academic effort, respect, ability to follow directions, and accept consequences. They can also earn bonus points for demonstrating positive character traits such as extending service to others or practicing the art of patience. Points are taken when the student is unwilling to comply with the expectations of the classroom. On Fridays the students have the opportunity to spend their points at the school store. Your child has a planner that is written in everyday to inform you of your child's behavior and academic performance. It is important that you sign this on a daily basis. If your child does not have the planner or it is not signed, points will be taken. Also, spelling and math homework is given everyday as well as 20 minutes of reading. Your child is expected to put their assignment in their planner. If homework is not completed, it will not only reflect in their grade but points will also be lost. I want your child to be successful and learning responsibility is a great start. I believe that communication is an excellent way to achieve success. I look forward to hearing from you anytime.
