Ms. Wimberly Writing/Homework 7th grade

FEBRUARY This month will be filled with a variety of exciting activities that will challenge students and increase their knowledge of poetry. Classes will be working with Figures of Speech and other elements of literature that have to do with the POETRY UNIT of the curriculum.

Studio Reading and Writing will combine to include use of both skills and create a more harmonious unit.

*Each student will build a "WORD BANK" to be used in writing original poetry works.

*Each student will read and select 20 favorite poems.

*Each student will be required to "PRESENT" 2 poems to the class within the next 3 weeks.

*Each student will develop a portfolio containing original works, favorite works, a word bank and other assignment related to the Poetry Unit.

EXTRA! EXTRA! No Spelling Units for homework for the month of February.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Each day students will be presented with interesting information celebrating "Black History Month." Be sure to check out http://www.blackhistory.com for your own enjoyment.

The 3rd week in February we will be watching the movie "The Tuskegee Airmen" This movie contains some racial slurs and compromising language, but I believe the content far out weighs that element. Please let me know if you would not want your child to see the movie.

Finally, our shared reading for this month is a wonderful book called "The Bronx Masquerade" by Nikki Grimes. Students seem to love this book and can't wait for shared reading each day. Pick up a copy from your local library if you want to read along with us.
