Science Project Timeline

1st Week, Jan. 25
Introduction to Science Fair                     
2nd Week, Feb.1
Library research for Science Project topic
3rd Week, Feb. 8
Proposals DUE. Proposals will include:
  1. Category of project
  2. Investigative Question(s) and Purpose of the experiment. (What problem are you going to solve?
  3. Your hypothesis or hypotheses
  4. Resources for background information (Books, magazines, etc.)
4th Week, Feb. 15
Written Project Plan DUE.  Projects plans will include:
  1. Materials needed
  2. Step by step Method to be followed for the experiments
  3. Identify the "Control" and "Variables" of your experiment
  4. Sample data sheets that you will use to record your data
5th to 6th Week, Feb. 22
Work on experiments, recording data and keeping your Notebook. Your Notebook MUST CONTAIN:
  1. Science Project Proposal Paper
  2. Written Project Plan
  3. Data Sheets
  4. Daily log, which includes:
  • Notes on your Procedure
  • Your interpretation of data
  • Difficulties you encounter
  • Ideas for improving the investigation
*Take PICTURES (NO FACES) of experiment for the Display*
6th Week, Feb. 29
Revise Written Project Plans DUE (If Required.) Everyone else, keep working!
7th Week, March 7
Notebooks should be in a Folder. Notebooks DUE for 1st CHECK. At this tiime, include a brief summary of what you have done so far and how it is working. I will be checking your work to see if you need to revise your plan.  Meanwhile, KEEP WORKING!
8th to 9th Week, March 14
Continue on experiments, recording in Notebook as described iin the four steps outlined on the handout for the Notebook.
  • Start Scientific Paper
  • Start building Display
9th Week, March 21
Notebooks DUE for 2nd CHECK.
11th Week, April 4
Spring break! Catch up on work!
12th Week, April 11
Scientific Papers DUE for CHECK.
Make any revisions as necessary. Prepare Notebooks  and Scientific Papers for review.
  • Revise Scientific Paper
  • Continue working on Display
13th Week, April 18

Notebooks DUE-- FINAL DRAFT.
14th Week, April 25
Scientific Papers DUE--FINAL DRAFT.
Teacher review of Notebooks and Papers
  • Finish Display
15th Week, May 2
ALL DUE: ALL Notebooks, Scientific Papers and Displays.

MAY 11 OPEN HOUSE FOR SCIENCE PROJECTS before the Band Concert!
