Mr. ThompsonMr. Thompson teaches four blocks of 6th grade Science and one block of Math. Some of the science topics include atoms, cell biology, personal health and geology. An effort is made to teach Science from an inter-disciplinary approach and to integrate contemporary issues from our planet. We will devote as much time as possible to hands-on activities. In Math we will be using the inquiry-based Connected Math booklets beginning with "Prime Time". Then we will proceed with "Data About Us", "Bits and Pieces," "Shapes and Designs," "Covering and Surrounding," and we will finish with "Bits and Pieces II." Make up Policy: My policy is consistent with the school and District policy in that if you are absent then you have a proportionate number of days to complete any missed work for full credit. And, in most cases the same assignment can be completed. However, on some occasions, for instance Science labs, it may not be practical/possible to make up the exact assignment. Know that I am happy to consult with all students about such matters yet time is limited, and ultimately the responsibility rests with the pupil, to make up missed work in a timely fashion. The taxpayers have provided a planner for students to record important information. I encourage pupils to write homework assignments in this agenda book by giving a grade on it every month or so. They may also use this booklet to keep track of personal dates, appointments and/or to ferry Merrill Memo papers to the home. During the second semester we will start work on Science projects. Visit this link for ideas on Science projects, a timeline and other information related to projects.
